As the Premier League’s final weekend plays out on Sky Sports and BT Sport, we dish out our end-of-season awards

By Virgin TV Edit

It’s been a Premier League season like no other. From Liverpool’s stunning title win to Project Restart, VAR madness, José’s return and much more, we won’t be forgetting this campaign in a hurry.

Now it’s time to bring the curtain down on the whole thing, with the final weekend of action playing out live across Sky Sports and BT Sport. Find out where you can watch all of the games with our comprehensive fixtures guide.

There’s still plenty to play for at both ends of the table – including the scrap for European qualification – and with every single match live on the box you don’t have to miss any of the final-day drama. Out and about? Then keep up to speed with everything via the Sky Sports app and Virgin TV Go app.

Before it all kicks off one last time, we’ve taken a look back at this most remarkable of seasons to bring you our very own awards. Whether it’s the good, the bad or the downright bizarre, here’s what caught our eye…

Player of the season

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

The Kevin De Bruyne Fan Club may disagree, but Van Dijk has taken Liverpool to another level since he joined them in 2018. This is a defender with presence – something the Reds had been crying out for before he moved to Anfield for 75 million big ones. Make no mistake: VVD has been mahoosive for the champions this season.

Result of the season

Watford 3-0 Liverpool

Arsenal fans across the globe could be heard celebrating when Watford ended Liverpool’s chances of becoming the new Invincibles at the end of February. Hands up, who saw this one coming? Anyone? Anyone at all?

Manager of the season

Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool)

An honourable mention must go to Sheffield United’s Chris Wilder, but it’s obviously Jürgen Klopp. The league table doesn’t lie, and if Liverpool are straddling it like a jockey storming to victory at the Grand National, their German coach is the champion trainer who made the dream a reality.

Goal of the season

Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur v Burnley)

Spurs’ South Korean superstar cut through Burnley as if they were in fact made of cake to score a brilliant individual goal in December. Check out some of the strikes that have wowed this season – including Son’s – in the video above.

’Mare of the season

David Luiz (Arsenal v Manchester City)

Forget the “new normal”. It was the old normal for David Luiz shortly after the restart, with the Brazilian at fault for a goal and getting sent off in Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City. File this performance under Absolute Horrorshow.

Tech disaster of the season

Aston Villa v Sheffield United

The first game back after the restart provided one of the campaign’s most controversial moments when Sheffield United weren’t awarded a goal after Villa goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland carried the ball over his own line. Referee Michael Oliver’s watch failed to buzz, while VAR was unable to get involved in such an incident. Oh dear.

Quote of the season

David Moyes (West Ham United)

“I think there’s only two or three managers with a better Premier League win record. That’s what I do, I win.”

David Moyes said this in December after being unveiled as West Ham manager for the second time. Little did he know he would win just one of his first ten matches back in charge of the Hammers.

Signing of the season

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)

Manchester United’s midfield maestro Bruno Fernandes has given the Red Devils their mojo back. True, he cost them a pretty penny (about £47 million) but he’s been worth it. Goals, assists and a bit of swagger make him a vital piece of the puzzle for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

Social crusader of the season

Leading a successful campaign to feed schoolkids across the UK? Let’s hear it for Marcus Rashford’s amazing efforts for those in need. A truly class act.
