Where was Deadwater Fell filmed?
In an idyllic Scottish village, a woman and three children die in a tragic house fire. It soon becomes apparent that this was no accident. This fatal event unsettles the entire community.
David Tennant leads a talented cast in Deadwater Fell, the sort of tense drama that will make you want to binge it over a weekend. The beautiful Scottish countryside and charming villages provide a stark contrast to the bleak subject matter. Much of the filming took place in beauty spots in Western Scotland.

Dunlop was one of the two villages that doubled for the fictional village of Kirkdarroch. Dunlop is a historic village that dates back to the 13th century. While it may look very remote and rural, it’s just a half-hour drive from Glasgow.
The second village used was Kilbarchan. The village even drafted in locals as extras for scenes such as the Ceilidh, with a local band providing the music. Gateside Place is one of the most recognisable streets. It was used for some exterior house shots. Kilbarchan is also about half an hour from Glasgow. On the first Saturday in June, it hosts the unique Lilias Day event which brings in hundreds of visitors for a parade and festivities.
In episode one, we see the family at the beach with tensions running high. While the drama may turn ugly, the setting of Culzean Beach is beautiful. Surrounded by the woodland and rugged cliffs of Culzean Country Park, this sandy beach is a popular spot for rock pooling when the tide goes out. During the summer, the caves are sometimes open for tours.
Another coastal location in Deadwater Fell is Irvine Beach Park. Around 30-miles from Glasgow, Irvine Beach has a long stretch of golden sand and windswept sand dunes. It’s hugely popular during the brief Scottish summer. If it’s too chilly to sit on the sand, don’t worry, there are plenty of places to walk and enjoy the mountain views, a boating lake, and play areas for the kids.
Most of Deadwater Fell’s filming locations were rural. Low Green Park is one of the few that’s set in a town. Low Green is a popular urban park in Irvine. Historically, this spot was used for grazing. During the Victorian era, the land was levelled off and facilities such as a promenade were created. Nowadays, it has a large play area, sports fields, and more. It often hosts festivals and events.
