What is Intelligent WiFi?

Intelligent WiFi is designed to automatically sort out any WiFi issues around your home without you needing to leave your seat.

The Hub 3, 4 and 5 have Intelligent WiFi self-optimising technology built in as standard. But if you have any hard-to-reach places in your home, our WiFi guarantee has you covered.

This promises that if you don’t get download speeds of at least 30Mbps in every room, you can bag up to three WiFi Pods, on us – and if that still doesn’t do the trick, we’ll pop £100 credit on your next bill.

Better WiFi coverage powered by our Hubs

There are two WiFi signals in your home: one connects devices that are far from your Hub (at slower speeds), the other is superfast when you’re closer. As you move your devices around, Intelligent WiFi checks on them all to see if they need a nudge on to the best WiFi band. Thanks to this adaptive band steering feature, you should have a fast and reliable broadband connection.

Automatic WiFi fixes

Intelligent WiFi sorts hiccups before they become problems and keeps your devices our of WiFi traffic jams by putting them on the quietest channel where they can perform at their very best. Its channel optimisation 2.0 feature now makes over 300,000 tweaks a day, just so you experience less WiFi interference and delays.

WiFi tailored to your needs

Older devices that can’t keep up with ultrafast broadband speeds can slow down a busy home WiFi network, unless you have Intelligent WiFi. It’s airtime fairness feature helps share WiFi throughout the home so all devices (and people using them) get the connection they need from the Hub 3, 4 or 5.

Complete coverage around your home

Scan your home using the free Virgin Media Connect app and, if it finds signal blackspots, you can now order an Intelligent WiFi Pod via the app.

Take control using the Connect app

The Virgin Media Connect App is the control unit for your WiFi. It lets you run a super-intelligent WiFi home scan to smooth out any snags, speed up your connection all around the house and pause WiFi to any device when you need to – perfect for when it’s the kids’ bedtime.

With the Connect app, you can also check out how all your WiFi Pods are doing – see their signal strength, which devices are connected to each one, get troubleshooting tips, rename them and much more.

Can I use mesh WiFi with an existing router?

Only the Hub 3, 4 and 5 have Intelligent WiFi mesh technology inside. If you’d like to start using mesh WiFi but have a different type of Hub, you’ll need to upgrade your Virgin Media online.

Our WiFi guarantee with WiFi Max

The WiFi guarantee with WiFi Max is our promise you’ll enjoy download speeds of at least 30Mbps in every room or get £100 bill credit. It’s backed up by our signal-boosting mesh WiFi Pods (if needed) and Intelligent WiFi service – at no extra cost with Gigabit Fibre Broadband and our Volt packages.

Or you can add WiFi Max to any deal (M50 Broadband or above) that doesn’t have Volt – even cheap broadband deals and special offers, such as broadband no setup, can get coverage. WiFi Max is £8 a month, and the first WiFi Pod comes included.

Intelligent WiFi Pods

The WiFi Pods and the Hub will create a mesh network that can give all your connected devices the strongest possible connection, all the time, wherever they are in your home. It’ll constantly adapt and evolve – extending your home WiFi coverage, which should bring faster and more reliable speeds to more rooms.

Our plug-in WiFi Pods will always choose the best connection for each device – their new roaming feature checks WiFi signal around your home and how busy each point gets at certain times. The WiFi Pods also change settings to stop interferences automatically, such as from your neighbour’s WiFi.

WiFi Guarantee with WiFi Max


WiFi Guarantee with WiFi Max: Available to Virgin Media residential broadband customers on M50 broadband or faster. Excludes Essential broadband customers. Existing Intelligent WiFi Plus customers will be individually informed when they are moved to WiFi Max. £8 a month add-on or at no extra cost for Ultimate Oomph, Gig1, Gig2 and Volt customers. WiFi Max is only available to order once your Virgin Media broadband service has been activated. If you don’t get download speeds of at least 30Mbps in every room, if needed we’ll provide up to 3 WiFi Pods. If that still doesn’t do the trick we’ll give you a one-off credit of £100 off your next bill. Guarantee and eligibility for pods does not cover broadband faults or network outages. Pods subject to stock availability, require self-installation via QuickStart and can be delivered via Click & Collect or optional home delivery (£5 delivery charge may apply).
