A few fixtures catch the eye in this month’s list of live Premier League games on TNT Sports – Liverpool v Newcastle is often full of goals, while champions Man City visit their least favourite ground, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But for our money, the most intriguing is Brighton v Bournemouth. The Cherries, in their second season under coach Andoni Iraola, have gatecrashed the upper echelons of the table by playing attacking football that’s very easy on the eye, unearthing some superb young players like Milos Kerkez and Dean Huijsen.
Brighton, having firmly established themselves in the Prem since promotion in 2017, are a real enigma, capable of winning comfortably at Old Trafford and then losing 7-0 to Nottingham Forest in the space of a fortnight. But it’s clear that they can beat anyone on their day, and in style: they have players that fans love to watch, from attacking full-back Tariq Lamptey to forceful midfielder Carlos Baleba to expert dribbler Kaoru Mitoma.
The clash between the two on 25 February has the potential to be one of the most entertaining games of the season – and if not, you’ve got plenty more to choose from, including three others on the same night.

Football: UEFA Champions League
Some seriously big names won’t be in the knockout phase of this season’s Champions League, but three English teams – Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool – definitely will be. Considering the calibre of the clubs coming through the qualifying play-offs, there won’t be anything resembling an easy draw in the last 16, which is frankly just as it should be in Europe’s elite competition. You can see the draw live from UEFA HQ in Nyon on 21 February on TNT Sports, as fans prepare for what’s always a gripping and exhilarating phase of this brilliant tournament.

Football: UEFA Europa League
It’s a testament to the difficulty of the Premier League that Man Utd and Spurs, two clubs having underwhelming seasons domestically, progressed to the knockout phase of the Europa League at a canter – United as the only unbeaten team left in the competition. Rangers joined them, securing the final qualifying place thanks to goal difference, and let’s not forget they’ve been to the Europa League final more recently than either of those English teams. All three will see this as an opportunity for silverware, and it’ll be highly intriguing to see how the draw plays out on TNT Sports.

It’s fair to say Chelsea will be confident no matter which opponent comes out of the hat for them in the draw for the knockout rounds: they sailed through the league stage, winning all six games with a goal difference of +21, and all without having to get Cole Palmer off his sofa. The England international will be back for the rest of the competition, though, making the west Londoners even stronger favourites. Fiorentina, runners-up for the past two years, are the other big name in the draw.

Football: UEFA Women’s Champions League
Chelsea and Man City drew each other in the Champions League quarter-finals, leading to an unusual situation where they’re facing each other four times in a row: the League Cup final, then a WSL match sandwiched between the two legs of this tie. Chelsea must be favourites, since they won their group, are clear at the top of the English league and delivered a convincing 2-0 defeat to City in November, but City have the quality to spring a surprise. And although the winners are likely to face holders Barcelona in the semi-finals, City did beat them in the group stage, so they’ll both take heart from that.
In the other half of the draw, seeded Arsenal face Real Madrid (whose women’s Champions League record is nothing like as good as the men’s), while Bayern – without injured Lioness Georgia Stanway – have drawn Lyon. TNT Sports has every knockout match from the tournament, including the final on 25 May.

Football: Serie A
The battle for Serie A looks like it’s going to be a two-horse race involving Inter and Napoli, with Atalanta in third struggling to stay in touch and no one else able to mount a credible challenge. This month you can see Juventus, who seem determined to draw as many games as they can despite the talent in their squad, away at Cagliari but the main attraction is Inter’s home game against Genoa. The visitors are solidly mid-table but are conceding lots of goals, and with the form Inter forwards Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez are in, they’ll be licking their lips at the prospect. Look out for more Serie A matches on TNT Sports too.

Football: A-League Men
It’s hard to know what to expect when a new team joins a league – but surely even the most enthusiastic fan of Auckland wouldn’t have expected this. After 15 games the Black Knights sat atop the A-League table, their successful season built on a firm foundation of excellent defending with just 12 goals conceded. They’ve got experience and quality at the back including their captain, Hiroki Sakai, who’s played in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 and has 74 caps for Japan, and New Zealand internationals Francis de Vries and Nando Pijnaker.
They’ve already beaten their instant rivals Wellington Phoenix in one “Kiwi Clásico” and they’ll be favourites going into the return match at home on 22 February, which is live on TNT Sports as is their game against Adelaide this month. New Zealand kick-off times can be punishing, though, so the good news is there are plenty of A-League matches to enjoy later in the day, including the Melbourne derby.

Football: A-League Women
)
It’s not been the best of seasons for many teams owned by the City Group. France’s Troyes are mired in Ligue 2, Manchester City’s men’s and women’s teams have lost ground in their title challenges, and Melbourne City’s men are struggling to stay in play-off contention. But it’s a different story in the A-League Women, where Melbourne City are flying – unbeaten after 16 rounds of fixtures and well clear at the top.
Coach Michael Matricciani has installed tremendous character in his players, who have come from behind to claim the points multiple times, and recently demonstrated deadly efficiency in their win in a 5-1 victory over Western United with just eight shots on target. Holly McNamara bagged a hat-trick in that game: she’s their top scorer and has recently been recalled to the national team. See if they can keep up their impressive form against Canberra on 1 March.

Rugby Union: Premiership Cup
It’s a huge month for this year’s Premiership Cup competition, which reaches the knockout stages at the very end of February. Despite Newcastle’s struggles in the Premiership, they’ve cruised through Pool A with convincing wins over not just Championship teams Doncaster and Caldy but also top-tier rivals Sale Sharks. If they can maintain this cup form, it could improve their season no end. Bath and Exeter have also performed well, while Ealing Trailfinders are the best-placed Championship side after a surprise win over Saracens in Pool C.

Rugby Union: Women’s Premiership
Harlequins and defending champions Gloucester-Hartpury were the first teams to qualify for this season’s play-offs – and they face each other at Kingsholm in the final game of the regular season. Assuming they finish first and second and thereby avoid each other in the semi-finals, whoever claims the victory on 21 February – live on TNT Sports – will strike an important psychological blow ahead of a potential rematch in the final. Quins’ Ellie Kildunne and Connie Powell are among the leading Premiership try scorers this season, and the team will need more of the same from them.

If you’re expecting the traditional giants of men’s rugby to be dominating the small-sided version, think again. After three rounds, Fiji, Argentina and Spain are tied at the top of the rankings, with Ireland languishing in last place and Great Britain not doing much better. Argentina were the stars of the last round, held in Australia, as they crushed the hosts 41-5 in the final and racked up a total of 175 points across their six matches.
In the women’s event, Australia have won two of the three rounds so far but a surprise fourth place in Cape Town means New Zealand are top of the table. The next round takes place in Vancouver.

Motorsport: MotoGP
After a somewhat chaotic 2024 MotoGP season, which saw four events cancelled or moved, Jorge Martín fulfilled the destiny most fans and pundits had predicted for him and won the championship. It was Pecco Bagnaia who started stronger, winning seven of the first 11 races, but Martín’s superior consistency got him over the line and by the time the riders came to the final race – which took place in Catalonia rather than Valencia after the region’s devastating floods – his lead was unassailable.
Six-time world champ Marc Marquez, who’s now Bagnaia’s team-mate at Ducati, is the favourite to take the title this year, but we’re expecting an extremely tight three-way battle between these three – and there’s also the possibility that another rider, like Enea Bastianini or 2021 champ Fabio Quartararo, could have a say. Whatever happens, it’s going to be fast-paced, incident-packed and thrilling, and it’s all live on TNT Sports, starting in Thailand on 28 February.

Motorsport: Superbikes
Where MotoGP uses custom-built racing motorcycles, Superbikes is all about fine-tuned versions of the bikes any of us could buy and ride. After an incredible 2024 season that included a 13-race winning streak, Turkey’s Toprak Razgatlıoğlu took the title on his ROCKIT BMW, ahead of the Ducati pair of Nicoló Bulega and Álvaro Bautista, with Britain’s Alex Lowes fourth on a Kawasaki. It had started so well for Lowes, who won two of the first three races, but found it impossible to top the podium after that.
His team has now changed to Bimota, but Lowes is hoping to be a contender again – as is his twin brother Sam, who rides a Ducati for the Marc VDS team. The first event of 2025 takes place at the Phillip Island GP Circuit near Melbourne.

The Australian and New Zealand touring car competition starts back up again this month, and Queenslander Will Brown will be back in his Camaro to defend the drivers’ and team titles he won with Triple Eight Racing in 2024. Last season was a straight fight between Brown and team-mate Broc Feeney for the championship, but ultimately a dodgy mid-season period when Feeney made just one podium in six races in Townsville, Sydney and Tasmania, at which point Brown went ahead and never looked back.
This year the competition starts in Sydney, and the biggest challenge to the Triple Eight drivers is expected to come from WAU’s Chaz Mostert and Tickford’s Cameron Waters.

Alex Pereira is one of the greats of the current MMA era, having held UFC championships at two weights. He’s the current light heavyweight champ, a title he’s held since UFC 295 in November 2023, and he’s defended it three times, winning Performance of the Night when he saw off Jiří Procházka at UFC 303. This month he faces a new challenge from Magomed Ankalaev, who’s been ranked number one in the division for the past few months. It could be the champ’s toughest fight yet, so tune in to TNT Sports late on Saturday 8 March to catch the action, live from Las Vegas.
Ahead of that, the action comes from Seattle on 23 February when a bantamweight match-up between Henry Cejudo and Song Yadong headlines, then it’s Vegas again for a flyweight bout featuring Manel Kape and Asu Almabayev. Last June, Liverpool’s Nick Ball fought for the WBA featherweight belt in Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Arena and won, beating US fighter Raymond Ford. In doing so he earned the right to defend it on home ground: fighting at the M&S Bank Arena, he saw off the challenge of Ronny Rios in October, and now he returns to the same venue to face TJ Doheny. The Irishman, a former super bantamweight world champ, is stepping up to the 126lb category for the first time for this event, which has been dubbed “A Hard Day’s Night”.
