Football: Premier League

Newcastle United v Chelsea in the Premier League, live on TNT Sports this month.

Following confirmation that the Premier League’s top five will all qualify for next season’s Champions League, it’s all about the race for those places on TNT Sports this month. Chelsea seem to have risen towards the top of the table by stealth: no really outstanding results or player performances (even Cole Palmer has gone slightly off the boil in recent weeks) but they’re arguably in the driving seat for qualification. If they can get six points from their two upcoming live TNT Sports matches, they’ll surely secure at least fourth place. But in-form Newcastle, who have their own Champions League ambitions, will be a difficult prospect at St James’ Park in what should be a humdinger of a clash.

The result of the game between Aston Villa and Fulham, both just outside the top five at the time of writing, could also have a big impact on European qualifying. All four of these teams have a chance of nabbing one of those slots, and all four are capable of beating anyone in the league on their day. Expect fireworks in TNT Sports’ Premier League coverage this month.

Football: UEFA Champions League

The consensus seems to be that the new Champions League format was an overall success, with some surprising outcomes – not least Real Madrid, Man City, PSG and Bayern all finishing outside the top eight – and some great games, although some carped that it went on a bit too long. What’s not in doubt, though, is the quality of the knockout stages. From the brilliant two-leg ding-dong between Liverpool and PSG to Arsenal’s phenomenal performances away at PSV and at home to Real Madrid, there have been plenty of memorable matches. And we’re expecting more before the showpiece final on 31 May, as the very best sides in Europe face off for the biggest prize in club football.

Wednesday 16 April, 7pm, TNT Sports 1 HD (CH 521)

Football: UEFA Europa League

The San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, venue for this year’s Europa League final, is a remarkable, award-winning structure that opened in 2013 and has staged rugby union, concerts and even cycling, as well as being the home of storied Basque club Athletic Bilbao. By tradition, visiting captains in Bilbao pay homage to the lost hero of Spanish football, Pichichi, the 5ft 1in forward who scored bucketloads of goals for Athletic in the 1910s but died from typhus aged just 29. The captains remaining in this year’s competition will hope they get the chance to leave some flowers in the great man’s honour on 21 May.

Quarter-final, 2nd Leg: Manchester United v Lyon

Football: UEFA Conference League

Although the first two Conference Leagues were won by teams from Italy and England, it has achieved its goal of ensuring more clubs from outside the “big five” leagues were involved in knockout European football. Last year Olympiacos claimed the trophy, and this year’s quarter-finalists included sides from Austria, Sweden, Slovenia and two from Poland – we’re pretty sure that’s never happened in the Champions League. It’s brilliant for fans and it’s thrown up some exciting matches as we head towards the final in Wrocław on 28 May, which of course will be live on TNT Sports.

Quarter-final, 2nd Leg: Chelsea v Legia Warsaw
Thursday 17 April, 7pm, TNT Sports 4 HD (CH 524)

Football: UEFA Women’s Champions League

Arsenal face Lyon in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, live on TNT Sports this month.

Arsenal and Chelsea both turned around two-goal deficits from their quarter-final first legs with 3-0 wins in the second. There’s nothing like doing things the hard way – and they don’t come any harder than the two English clubs’ semi-final opponents. Arsenal face Lyon, winners of six of the last nine Champions League titles, while Chelsea come up against Barcelona, who’ve won three in the past four seasons.

Arsenal’s current excellent domestic form will give them the confidence they need to take on the French champions, led by imposing central defender Wendie Renard. A lead in the first leg is crucial. Chelsea, meanwhile, have been rotating their squad in the WSL as they try to keep their top players fresh for the challenge of two matches against Barcelona, packed with World Cup-winning Spain stars and other top international talent such as Norway’s Caroline Graham Hansen. Coach Sonia Bompastor is an experienced Champions League campaigner: can she take the Blues to the pinnacle of Europe? Find out on TNT Sports. The final is on 25 May.

Semi-final, 1st Leg: Arsenal v Lyon
Saturday 19 April, 12pm, TNT Sports 1 HD (CH 521)

Semi-final, 1st Leg: Barcelona v Chelsea
Easter Sunday, 4.30pm, TNT Sports 2 HD (CH 522)

Semi-final, 2nd Leg: Chelsea v Barcelona

Semi-final, 2nd Leg: Lyon v Arsenal
Sunday 27 April, 4.30pm, TNT Sports

Football: Serie A

A huge club with loads of titles – check. Red on their shirts – check. Got rid of a once-highly rated manager midway through the season – check. Still experiencing poor results – check. AC Milan are doing a great impression of Man Utd over in Serie A, and it looks increasingly like they too might finish well outside the European places after replacing coach Paulo Fonseca with Sergio Conceição made little difference to their form. They’ve got a handful of games left to catch the teams above them, and will want to start with three points at home to Atalanta on Easter Sunday. Their opponents, who have been in the top three for much of the season, suddenly look vulnerable after a run of defeats. There’s Serie A action every weekend on TNT Sports until the final round of fixtures on 25 May.

AC Milan v Atalanta
Easter Sunday, 7.30pm, TNT Sports 1 HD (CH 521)

Parma v Juventus
Easter Monday, 7.30pm, TNT Sports 1 HD (CH 521)

Football: NWSL

The NWSL season only started in mid-March, but champions Orlando Pride are already looking as if they could repeat last season’s achievements. They started by smashing Chicago for six in their season opener, last year’s top scorer (and BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year) Barbra Banda grabbing two. There are tougher opponents to come, though – such as Angel City, who have England’s Katie Zelem and Scotland’s Claire Emslie in their squad. The two sides meet in the early hours of 26 April, live on TNT Sports.

Kansas City Current – co-owned by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes – also had a great start and their home game against Houston Dash is on too, while Racing Louisville feature twice.

Football: A-League Men

Auckland FC of the A-League, live on TNT Sports this month.

In their very first season in the A-League Men, Auckland became the first team to qualify for the finals, and with a healthy lead it’s surely just a matter of time before they wrap up the premiership too. (In A-League parlance, “premiership” means finishing top of the table; “championship” means winning the Grand Final – yes, we have trouble remembering it too.) Considering they’re a new team with a lot of travelling to do during the season, it’s a phenomenal achievement by Steve Corica and his players. Can they maintain their levels all the way to the Grand Final?

There are still finals places up for grabs behind them, and the match between Western Sydney and Melbourne City on 19 April could be a crucial one regarding the league positions that decide who plays whom. With Western United, Sydney, Macarthur, Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory all battling to finish in the top six as well, a thrilling end to the season is guaranteed.

Football: A-League Women

Melbourne City and Victory will be the top two in the A-League Women this season, cementing the city’s status as the centre of women’s football in Australia. The unbeaten City must be the favourites to top the table and to reach the Grand Final, with Holly McNamara proving adept at grabbing important goals off the bench – she’s bagged 12 in the league from just seven starts – but don’t rule out Victory, who have lost just twice and have their own prolific goalscorer in Emily Gielnik.

Adelaide United and another Melbourne team, Western United, have already secured their places in the elimination finals, leaving two places for the rest to contest: Central Coast Mariners could seal theirs with a win at Newcastle, live on TNT Sports on 19 April, while in the later kick-off Canberra United can advance their cause by securing three points at bottom club Western Sydney.

Rugby Union: Premiership

Sale Sharks v Saracens, live on TNT Sports this month.

It’s a fascinatingly close battle in the middle of the Premiership, where Leicester, Gloucester, Sale, Saracens and Harlequins are all separated by just a handful of points as they strive to make the play-off places. That being the case, there are a number of crucial matches on TNT Sports as we head towards the climax of the season. It’s a big day on 19 April, when Harlequins host Sale and Gloucester go to Saracens. And the pace doesn’t let up the following weekend, with the Sharks at home to Saracens on Friday and then Leicester against Quins on Saturday.

It’s impossible to say who has an advantage at this stage, and the only thing we can confidently predict is that it’ll go down to the final weekend of the season. Whoever makes the top four will be in semi-final action on the weekend of 6-7 June, with the Grand Final on 14 June.

Rugby Union: SVNS Championship

In the final round of the 2025 SVNS Championship – held in Los Angeles – the top eight women’s and men’s teams will compete for the titles, while the bottom four will play off against teams from the Challenger Series in an attempt to avoid relegation from the competition. The good news for British fans is that the GB teams are in both the championship contests; the bad news is they were eighth in both, so they’re unlikely to trouble the medal positions. But hope springs eternal, and all that.

At the top end, New Zealand’s women have been hugely impressive, winning four of the six previous rounds – it’s going to take a superhuman effort to stop them triumphing here. The men’s event is somewhat closer, although Fiji and table-toppers Argentina have looked a cut above the rest. We’d expect to see those two contesting the final on 4 May, which you can watch on TNT Sports.

Motorsport: MotoGP

Everything can change in a split second in MotoGP. After winning the first two races of 2025, Marc Márquez qualified on pole at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas and seemed to be cruising towards another victory until, with 12 laps to go, he hit the kerb and crashed. Not only did he lose the race to Pecco Bagnaia, he was also overtaken at the top of the championship leaderboard by his brother Alex, who finished second behind Bagnaia. We doubt that’s the last time the lead will change hands this season as this always exciting competition continues on TNT Sports with races in Jerez and Le Mans.

Motorsport: Rallying + Touring

The British pair Elfyn Evans and co-driver Scott Martin added a win in Kenya to their victory in Sweden to stretch their lead in the 2025 World Rally Championship, which stands at a whopping 36 points ahead of the season’s fourth event in the Canary Islands. The only team to beat them do far, Sébastien Ogier and Vincent Landais, are only competing in part of the season. Surely, surely, Evans and Martin will go on and win it from here, after being runners-up four times in the past five years. This is their year. We can feel it.

After Cameron Waters started the Supercars season in style by winning all three races at the Sydney 500, he couldn’t get on the podium at the Melbourne SuperSprint, where the race wins were shared between Broc Feeney, Cameron Hill and Will Brown (the fourth race was abandoned owing to torrential rain). It looks like being a battle between Waters and Brown, but there’s plenty of racing to come.

Motorsport: Speedway

The British Speedway Premiership, live on TNT Sports this month.

If you have a fond, or even a vague, memory of speedway races – fearless riders, no brakes, mud flying everywhere – on the telly, we’ve got good news. TNT Sports is the new home of the British Speedway Premiership, which begins its 2025 season this month, and you can watch 18 of its races. That includes the British Final on 12 May, when Dan Bewley attempts to win his fourth consecutive title, something no one has achieved since the 1960s.

TNT Sports also brings you international speedway in the form of FIM Grand Prix events from Germany and Poland this month, where Bewley and Robert Lambert will be representing Britain. And look out for the two races in the British Grand Prix event at the National Speedway Stadium in Gorton, Manchester, coming your way in June.

Motorsport: Formula E Championship

After a 14th-place finish in the season’s first race in São Paolo, Britain’s Oliver Rowland bounced back superbly to take an early lead in the championship. Another British driver, Taylor Barnard, whose McLaren uses the same Nissan e-4orce 05 power source as Rowland’s Nissan car, is also performing well – although he too hasn’t been completely consistent, with a 14th place in Mexico City blotting his season’s record.

But the unpredictability of this sport is what makes it gripping: champion Pascal Wehrlein experienced a retirement, a 15th place and an eighth place in his first four races, so anything can happen to a car no matter how accomplished the driver. This month, TNT Sports will be in Monaco and Tokyo to bring you the high-speed action.

Motorsport: Motocross World Championship

After double race wins at Cózar and Saint-Jean-d’Angély events, Slovenian rider Tim Gajser took the lead in the MXGP championship. This month the teams are in Frauenfeld, Switzerland, where Gajser won both races last year, and the Honda HRC man also won one of the 2024 races in Portugal – so if he can repeat his success at these venues in 2025, he could build a serious lead. But we’re only a quarter of the way into this season and with 15 events left, there are bound to be plenty of twists.

MMA: UFC

Welterweight champion Belal Muhammad will be in action at UFC 315, live on TNT Sports this month.

The UFC is on a mini-tour of the US Midwest this month. First up it’s Kansas City, Missouri, where a bout between welterweights Ian Machado Garry of Ireland and Brazil’s Carlos Prates is the headline. Then it’s on to Des Moines, Iowa, for a bantamweight battle between Cory Sandhagen and Deiveson Figueiredo, a former flyweight champ going into his fifth fight since stepping up.

The promotion then moves on to Montréal to stage a pair of title fights at UFC 315. Welterweight champion Belal Muhammad, who took the title from Britain’s Leon Edwards in Manchester at UFC 304, defends his belt against Australia’s Jack Della Maddalena. In the co-headline bout, flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko – rated the best pound-for-pound female fighter in the UFC – enters the Octagon to face the challenge of Manon Fiorot, who may get solid support from the Québécois crowd. Also on the mouthwatering bill is Lithuania-born British light heavyweight Modestas Bukauskas, who takes on Ion Cutelaba of Moldova.

Cycling: UCI World Tour

After the Spring Classics and the Cobbled Classics come the Ardennes Classics: the Amstel Gold (held in Limburg, Netherlands), the Flèche Wallonne (or Walloon Arrow, running from Charleroi to Huy) and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. In 2024 there was British success in the men’s Amstel Gold, won by Tom Pidcock, and the Flèche, won by Stephen Williams – although in all three, Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar is the man to beat.

The defending Tour de France and Triple Crown champion has won all three in the past, and is in supreme form following his recent victories in the Strade Bianche and Tour of Flanders. Demi Vollering of the Netherlands won all three women’s races in 2023 but none last year, so she’ll be keen to reclaim her crowns. Enjoy all these brilliant races on TNT Sports this month.

Athletics: Grand Slam Track

British athlete Matthew Hudson-Smith in Grand Slam Track action, live on TNT Sports this month.

Michael Johnson, the multiple world and Olympic running champion turned world-class pundit, is the driving force behind this new pro athletics event which aims to raise the level of competition between the high-profile but infrequent global and continental championships. At each meeting, athletes compete in two events across six categories – Short Sprints, Short Hurdles, Long Sprints, Long Hurdles, Short Distance and Long Distance – for the chance to win the Grand Slam title.

The first Slam took place in Kingston, Jamaica, featuring Olympic stars such as the US’s 200m champion Gabby Thomas and double silver medallist Kenny Bednarek, as well as GB’s former 200m world champ Dina Asher-Smith. Among the big winners on the night was Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith, who won the 200m and was runner-up in the 400m to take first place in the Long Sprints category. We’re intrigued by this high-quality event and will be tuning in for the three remaining Grand Slams in 2025, which are in Philadelphia, Los Angeles and, first up this month, Miami.

Snooker: World Championship

World champion Kyren Wilson returns to Sheffield as the top seed determined to break the so-called “Crucible Curse”. According to this, no first-time winner has retained their title since the tournament moved to the Crucible Theatre almost 50 years ago. He’ll face plenty of tough opposition, not least world number one Judd Trump, four-time world champ John Higgins and the strong Chinese contingent led by Xiao Guodong and Ding Junhui – but as so often, the outcome of the tournament could depend on whether Ronnie O’Sullivan is in the mood or not.

The mercurial Englishman tends to go one of two ways: either he doesn’t make it past the quarter-finals or he wins the whole thing. So Wilson, who could meet him in the semi-finals, had better be ready for the challenge if O’Sullivan looks up for it in the early rounds. There’s extensive daily live coverage of this venerable and always gripping event on TNT Sports.

Basketball: NBA

It’s a long season in the NBA, with each team playing 82 games over six months, but the postseason is finally here. It starts with the play-in tournament, in which the teams ranked seventh to 10th play to determine who nabs each conference’s final two play-off spots, and then the play-offs themselves get under way on 19 April. Oklahoma City Thunder, coming off the best season in the history of the franchise and one of the best of all time, will start as favourites for the championship – but we wouldn’t rule out the Cavaliers or Celtics, both of whom have been impressive. And there’s always a chance someone could spring a surprise… Check out all the live games on TNT Sports, with the finals due to start on 5 June.

Australian Rules Football: AFL Men’s

Hawthorn Hawks in Aussie Rules action, live on TNT Sports this month.

Hawthorn Hawks are among the most successful teams in Aussie Rules history, having been premiers 13 times – in fact they’re the only team to win the title in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. But since their last premiership in 2015 they’ve struggled, the nadir coming with a 16th-place finish in 2023. Last season, though, a late surge saw them make the finals and this year they’ve started like a train, beating Sydney, Essendon, Carlton and GWS to sit top of the table after four rounds.

Coach Sam Mitchell – who had a glorious playing career with the Hawks, winning four premierships and the Brownlow Medal (the player of the year award) – was appointed in 2022 and took a while to get going, but he’s got the team purring this season, particularly as they racked up 111 points against the Bombers. Holders Brisbane Lions, who also won their first four games, will be tough rivals but the Hawthorn fans have good reason to be excited for the first time in a decade.

You can watch them against Geelong on Easter Monday, with plenty more AFL coverage on TNT Sports this month.

Baseball: Major League Baseball

The San Diego Padres had a terrific season in 2024 – 93 wins was their second highest total ever – and only lost out in the play-offs to the eventual World Series winners, the Los Angeles Dodgers. And the Padres hit the ground running this year, with two series shut-outs over the Atlanta Braves (4-0) and Cleveland Guardians (3-0) at their home stadium Petco Park. Outfielder Fernando Tatís Jr batted through injury last year and still made All-Star – and now he’s fit and ready to be an MVP contender again.

All in all, they’re looking in good shape for a tilt at their first ever World Series championship, and you can check them out against the Houston Astros over Easter weekend, along with lots more MLB coverage on TNT Sports.
