One of snooker’s blue riband events is on your screens this week (Monday 18 to Monday 25 November) when the UK Championship begins on Saturday, live across the BBC TV channels and BBC iPlayer from the Barbican in York. The mercurial Ronnie O’Sullivan, who first won the title in 1993, is once again the defending champ but he’ll face serious competition from world number one Judd Trump, last year’s runner-up Ding Junhui and many more leading players.

In the other great indoor sport, the countdown to the PDC World Championship is on as the top dartists take the stage at Minehead for the Players Championship, where 17-year-old Luke Littler will be favourite after his dominant victory at last week’s Grand Slam. It’s live on ITV4. The Premier League returns after the international break with some games to savour including Ipswich v Man Utd, new coach Rúben Amorim’s first match in charge.
