Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards 2019
Recovered yet? The Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards 2019 didn’t disappoint, with a whole host of stars from the small screen coming out in force at London’s Royal Festival Hall to celebrate a truly epic 12 months of telly.
With Graham Norton back on presenting duties (and cracking plenty of sharp-tongued gags from the very start) the big winners on the night were Jodie Comer and Benedict Cumberbatch, who won the Leading Actress and Leading Actor awards for their roles in Killing Eve and Patrick Melrose, respectively. Killing Eve was named best drama series, while Fiona Shaw picked up a gong for best supporting actress for her part in the hit thriller. The award for best supporting actor went to Ben Whishaw for his portrayal of Norman Scott in the acclaimed three-part drama A Very English Scandal.
But that only tells half the story of what was an amazing night. From the best-dressed stars to the most memorable speeches, here are the highlights from the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards 2019…
Virgin Media was at the heart of the action before, during and after this most prestigious of ceremonies, with exclusive red carpet interviews, exclusive backstage chats with the winners, and our amazing RoboPap getting up close and personal with the biggest names across social media. Other big winners on the night included Britain’s Got Talent (Entertainment Programme), EastEnders (Soap & Continuing Drama), I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! (Reality & Constructed Factual) and Dame Joan Bakewell, who was honoured with the BAFTA Fellowship. And how can we forget the Virgin Media Must-See Moment Award? Fighting off fierce competition, this year’s worthy winner was Julia Montague’s shocking assassination in Bodyguard.
And it was an evening for stirring winners’ speeches, too, as Judge Rinder (Who Do You Think You Are?), Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9) and Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) all received deserved ovations for their heartfelt words on stage. And, of course, Danny Dyer swore.
