Saddle up for the epic return of Yellowstone, streaming exclusively on Paramount+. Ahead of its comeback, we get you up to speed
By Charlotte Briggs, Feature Writer
It’s official. Yellowstone is back in business, much to the delight of fans around the world. For those of you who aren’t in the know, Taylor Sheridan’s award-winning drama follows the hardships and fortunes of the wealthy Dutton family who own the largest cattle ranch in the United States.
While life on a sprawling ranch in the beautiful Montana countryside sounds idyllic to most, the reality couldn’t be further from the truth. From shifting alliances and familial rivalries to assassination attempts and border conflicts, there’s always a score to settle as the Duttons fight to protect their land. And the previous season only saw their power grow as the family became entrenched within Montana’s political landscape.
As a new chapter approaches, here’s a look at the latest trailer:
It’s clear the stakes have never been higher for Kayce (Luke Grimes), Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Beth (Kelly Reilly), as they must each decide how they want to be remembered in the Dutton legacy. Until then, we answer some of your burning questions about the latest instalment Yellowstone.
What happened last season?
Viewers left off with Duttons more divided than ever after a seismic shift in their family dynamic. While ranch successor Kayce embarked on a spiritual journey, wildcard Jamie grew increasingly dangerous and their sister Beth continued her warpath against corporate enemy Market Equities.
Do I need to watch the other seasons before tuning in?
Absolutely not. As a contemporary family drama set against a jaw-dropping backdrop of natural beauty, this show has something for everyone. And with Yellowstone’s return truly mixing things up, it doesn’t matter if you’re coming into this season cold.
After all, at the show’s heart it’s a never-ending power struggle between backstabbing siblings, soapy drama amongst Dutton ranch workers and an insight into the conflicts between traditional and modern ways of life. What more could you want in a prestige drama series?
Add in the #couplegoals relationship of fan favourites Beth and Rip and a dash of rootin’-tootin’ cowboy action (never has a TV show’s uniform looked so good), and you’ve got yourself a wild ride through the American west whether you start now or from the very beginning.
Across the previous seasons it’s also a show that has picked up quite the audience, and that includes a load of superstars who regularly tune in. We’re talking Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck, Chris Pratt and the Beckhams. Now that’s an episode of Gogglebox we’d love to watch.
And if you’re like the Beckhams and can’t get enough of the Yellowstone saga then your thirst can be well and truly quenched. There are two prequel series on Paramount+ that you can also stream now, each headlined by some big star names.
There’s 1883 that details the Dutton ancestor’s arduous journey to unclaimed frontiers with Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Meanwhile, 1923 sees the Dutton family navigate the era of Prohibition fronted by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. Plus, new spin-off The Madison starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox was recently announced.
When is Yellowstone returning?
Paramount+ is the only place to catch up on all seasons of Yellowstone, with new episodes streaming weekly from Monday 11 November, only on Paramount+ (Apps > Paramount+). Prequel series 1883 and 1923 are also available to stream on Apps > Paramount+ now.
