Emma Roberts proves the sky is the limit as a party girl-turned-astronaut in Space Cadet on Prime Video

By Charlotte Briggs, Staff Writer

What did you want to be when you were a kid? A doctor, a firefighter or a zookeeper? Tiffany “Rex” Simpson (Emma Roberts, About Fate, Holidate, Maybe I Do) dreamed of going to space. But as many of us – and Rex – already know all too well, life doesn’t always go to plan.

That sentiment is the inspiration behind Space Cadet – the latest romcom from Amazon MGM Studios, which has produced other genre big hitters including The Idea Of You, Música and Upgraded in 2024 alone. Check out the trailer below.

Rex is a twentysomething party girl who longs to fulfil her childhood goal of becoming an astronaut. It seems a near impossible task until she enlists the help of her best friend Nadine Cai (Poppy Liu, Hacks) and they successfully scam a seat for Rex on NASA’s ultra-competitive astronaut training programme. After all, it’s not like it’s rocket science… right?

Soon enough, Rex finds herself out of her depth, much to the dismay of NASA programme directors Pam Proctor (Gabrielle Union, Think Like A Man) and Logan O’Leary (Tom Hopper, The Umbrella Academy). But what Rex lacks in qualifications and scientific expertise, she makes up for in smarts, courage and determination.

And as she gets closer to reaching the cosmos, Rex’s story is one that’s filled with charm, adventure and that all-important message that it’s never too late to shoot for the stars.

Written and directed by Liz W Garcia (Purple Hearts, Dawson’s Creek) and with a supporting cast including Dave Foley (Fargo), Yasha Jackson (The Flight Attendant), Sam Robards (AI: Artificial Intelligence) and Desi Lydic (The Daily Show), we have no doubt that Space Cadet is going to be out of this world.
