We’ve pulled together the best of the best across BBC iPlayer, Channel 4, Prime Video, Disney+ and Paramount+ and in On Demand. So, keep scrolling to see all our highlights on Virgin TV this month. Or check out what’s new on Netflix this month for our pick of the best TV and movies on the service.

The Rig

Another oil rig, another mysterious entity that’s ready to end life as we know it. Following the horrifying events of season 1, Kinloch Bravo survivors including Magnus (Iain Glen), Rose (Emily Hampshire) and Fulmer (Martin Compston) are transported from one nightmarish living space to another when they arrive at a new secret offshore facility in the Arctic Circle. But this time round, there’s just as much danger inside the rig as well what lurks below in the deep, dark ocean.

Civil War

Prime Video brings you one of the past year’s best political thrillers in Civil War, written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Alex Garland (Ex Machina). A group of war journalists travel across a dystopian United States to interview the President before he’s overthrown by a growing rebellion. Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Cailee Spaeny lead an ensemble cast.

Molly-Mae: Behind It All

Life has changed a lot for Molly-Mae Hague since she first entered the Love Island villa in 2019. Now the mega-influencer is giving never-before-seen access to her personal life with her documentary debut. Follow her journey as she takes on the challenges of motherhood, new business ventures, public scrutiny and a difficult break up with long-term partner Tommy Fury in the same 24 hours as everyone else.

The Killer’s Game

Two separate weddings booked at one venue on the same day. What could possibly go wrong? Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon are about to find out in this hilarious comedy.

Sir Alex

Alex Ferguson is the most decorated manager in the history of English football and this two-part documentary charts his rise, from early successes in Scotland to establishing a dynasty at Manchester United, dominating the Premier League and conquering Europe. With contributions from friends and colleagues and from some of those with whom the fiery Scotsman clashed over the years, this is both an analysis and a celebration of one man’s remarkable achievements in a job that, as his successors at Old Trafford have shown, is one of the most difficult in football.

The Traitors

A priest, an opera singer, a landscaper, a swimming teacher, a window cleaner, a financial investigator… no, it’s not the line-up of a giant-killing non-league team in this season’s FA Cup but of the gripping new series of The Traitors. Claudia Winkleman is back to oversee another crash course in Machiavellian tactics as the participants strive to stay ahead of their fellow contestants and claim victory. With new rules heightening the tension, it’s all disgustingly addictive. The finale is on Friday 24 January.

SAS Rogue Heroes

More adventures and derring-do from the original Special Air Services personnel – except for David Stirling (Connor Swindells), who’s given his SAS colleagues a new challenge by getting himself detained in a prisoner-of-war camp. His absence leaves the sometimes reckless Paddy Mayne (Jack O’Connell) in charge, so can he curb his worst impulses and come up with an effective strategy? It’s action stations in Steven Knight’s smartly scripted war thriller series based on Ben MacIntyre’s book.

Silent Witness

Moonflower Murders

Lesley Manville stars as publisher and amateur sleuth Susan Ryeland in this gentle mystery series based on Anthony Horowitz’s novel.

Dragons’ Den

Fitness guru Joe Wicks and fashionista Trinny Woodall are among the guest Dragons in a new series of the entrepreneurial reality show.

Father Brown

Mark Williams (Harry Potter’s Arthur Weasley) dons the dog collar once again for more scenic murder investigations in the fictional Cotswold village of Kembleford.

Bump

The Australian comedy drama about an unexpected pregnancy returns for a fifth and final season: it’s a tough time for Angie (Claudia Karvan), but good news is around the corner in the form of another bundle of joy.

Brian And Maggie

The year is 1989 and one of Britain’s leading political journalists is about to take on the biggest story of his career: an interview with the soon-to-be-outgoing Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. Steve Coogan stars as legendary reporter Brian Walden while Harriet Walter gives a stand-out performance as the Iron Lady in this two-part docudrama that’ll have you on the edge of your seat.

Patience

Ella Maisy Purvis is Patience, a young autistic woman and self-taught criminologist who yearns for more than her role in the criminal records department can offer. Cue Detective Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser, Breaking Bad) who spots her talents and introduces Patience to a whole new world of unusual crime scenes and intriguing mysteries.

Celebrity Hunted

Loose Women’s Denise Welch, Blue singer Duncan James and Strictly’s Giovanni Pernice are some of the latest stars on the run with the return of Celebrity Hunted. In teams of two, the famous faces spend 14 tiring days as fugitives, continuously escaping the clutches of specialist hunters who are chasing them across the nation. But how long will they remain free?

The Good Fight

In this spin-off from hit legal drama The Good Wife, successful attorney Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) is looking forward to retirement – until a financial disaster means she joins a new firm, where there’s something of a culture clash. This certainly isn’t your standard procedural, with fascinating cases inspired by news headlines and covering everything from racism and misogyny to finance and tech, and with quirky touches like songs and animations to explain the legal details. The always watchable Baranski is terrific, as are her British co-stars Rose Leslie (Vigil) and Cush Jumbo (Deadwater Fell).

Dart Kings

Find it in On Demand > Sky Documentaries now

Could darts be any hotter right now? Anyone excited by Luke Littler and co should check out this three-part docuseries, which looks back over the careers of three of the sport’s greatest stars: Eric Bristow, Jocky Wilson and Phil Taylor. The smoky, rough-and-ready rooms of the 1970s and 80s contrast starkly with today’s slick events but modern darts owes much to these players, who brought in an audience of diehard fans. Contributions come from the likes of Bobby George, John Lowe, Dennis Priestley and Barry Hearn.

The Crow Girl

In this six-part British drama, adapted from the international best-seller by Erik Axl Sund, detective Jeanette Kilburn (Eve Myles, We Hunt Together) teams up with a psychotherapist (Mr Bates Vs The Post Office’s Katherine Kelly) to investigate the mysterious deaths of young men whose bodies were discovered to be full of anaesthetic. The search for the killer takes them down a dangerous path of historical abuse, murder and dark secrets.

Star Trek: Section 31

Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once) returns to her Star Trek: Discovery role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou in this new original movie – the first since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond –  set in the period between the original Trek movies and The Next Generation. Georgiou joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, but trouble lurks among the stars and lives are at stake.

School Spirits

Following the shocking season 1 finale of this supernatural mystery drama, Maddie (Peyton List, Cobra Kai) is still stuck in the afterlife, but now she knows what happened to send her there. She must unite her friends in the spectral and living worlds – including Simon (Kristian Ventura), the only living person who can see her, and Wally (Milo Manheim), her spectral love interest – to reclaim her stolen life.

Based on the popular French series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel, it also stars Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb and Judy Reyes.

Paradise

Paradise is set in a serene community inhabited by some of the world’s most prominent individuals. But this tranquillity explodes when a shocking murder occurs and a high-stakes investigation unfolds. How to watch Paramount+ with Virgin TV

If you’re a Virgin TV 360 box or Stream from Virgin Media customer, you can get Paramount+ direct on your telly once you’ve got a subscription to the service. Simply sign up online, then log in on the box. And because Paramount+ is fully integrated into Virgin TV 360 and Stream, you can search without even going into the app. Just select Search & Discover from the Home menu and type in the name of the show or movie you’re after. You can also voice search Paramount+ shows with your remote, or say “Paramount Plus” to get to the app even faster.

How to watch Prime Video with Virgin TV

Prime Video is available to all Virgin TV customers with a V6 box, powered by TiVo®, and a subscription to the service. Simply sign up to Amazon Prime via the website, and you can log in on the box. And because Prime Video is fully integrated into TiVo®, you can search without even going into the app. Just select Search & Discover from the Home menu and type in the name of the show or movie you’re after. Virgin TV 360 customers can also find Prime Video shows and launch the app with voice search. 

How to access Disney+ on Virgin TV

All Virgin TV customers with our 360 box or Stream can find Disney+ in the Apps menu. Just scroll to Disney+ and press Select. You will need to login to use Disney+ the first time you use it. Please use the QR code or website information presented when opening the app for the first time.

If you do not currently have a Disney+ subscription, simply sign up via the Disney+ website, and then you can login on the box.
