Before this weekend’s London Marathon, we race through the most iconic runs on film. Because a movie marathon still counts, right?
The London Marathon, Sunday 22 April, 8.30am, BBC One/HD (CH 101/108)
The sun is shining (maybe), the birds are singing (ha, do pigeons sing?) and thousands upon thousands are taking to the streets of London on Sunday to run 26.2 miles. Why? Some for glory, many for a charitable cause, but all for at least one reason – they’re absolutely bonkers.
We’re just joking, obviously! These people are superhuman. And while they’re out there, pounding the pavements and achieving their dreams, we’ll be cheering them on from the comfort of our sofas. What better way to gear up for a Sunday afternoon of doughnut-munching and movie marathons than watching other people run one first?
So what will our afternoon entertainment be? Well, this whole marathon business got us thinking about famous runners in the movies. So fill yourself full of jog-happy inspiration via this, er, run-down of the most iconic (and occasionally preposterous) running scenes in cinematic history.
