Who will rule Merseyside?

Who will rule Merseyside?

One of the spiciest derbies in football is ready for kick-off live on Sky Sports Premier League

Goodison Park will be rocking when two of the top flight’s biggest rivals square off…

Everton v Liverpool, Sunday 3 March, 4pm, Sky Sports Premier League/HD (CH 512/502)

Unpredictable. Unbelievable. Unmissable. From the raw passion in the stands to the incendiary action on the pitch, the Merseyside derby is a fixture that serves up headlines like few others. But this weekend’s showdown at Goodison Park – which you can watch live on Sky Sports Premier League – has definitely got something different about it.

In the red half of the city, Liverpool are gunning for their first league title since 1990. With just two months of the season left, Jürgen Klopp and his players are ready to get the club back on its perch, but with Manchester City and Spurs still in the mix this isn’t the time to get complacent. Now, it’s all about picking up vital points in vital games.

In stark contrast, it’s been a sticky season for the Toffees. There was the hope of it being a new dawn for the club back in August, as new manager Marco Silva splashed the cash on a host of new stars – including £40 million on Brazilian forward Richarlison. Since then, it’s been a campaign defined by patchy results and even patchier performances, leaving Everton staring at the possibility of an underwhelming mid-table finish.

The last Merseyside derby in December ended in pandemonium, as a howler from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford gifted Liverpool a late winner at Anfield. What followed was either amazing or despicable depending on who you support, as Reds boss Klopp celebrated by running onto the pitch and embracing goalkeeper Alisson. Will revenge be on the Everton players’ minds after such a crushing defeat? You bet it will.

And as if this rivalry needed any more zing, it’s famously produced more red cards than any other fixture in Premier League history. In 53 matches 21 have been brandished, making this a contest for those who like their football with a side of blood and thunder.

As Merseyside derbies go, this one comes at a crucial juncture in the season for both teams. There’s plenty at stake, but who’s going to rule the city come the final whistle? Find out how this must-watch encounter plays out by following all of the action live on Sky Sports Premier League and the Sky Sports app.
