Joshua will aim to maintain his undefeated record – not to mention his status as a modern-day great – in a blockbuster night of boxing at Wembley…
Joshua v Povetkin, Saturday 22 September, 6pm, Sky Sports Box Office. £19.95 for SD, £20.95 for HD. Booking now open
In arguably the biggest heavyweight title fight since, well, his bout with then-WBO champion Joseph Parker back in April, Joshua will go toe to toe with Russian veteran Povetkin at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 22 September.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. Joshua’s WBO, WBA, IBF and IBO belts, his prized undefeated record and the chance to fight WBC champion Deontay Wilder next year are all on the line – and one well-timed punch could potentially ruin years of progress for either fighter.
Joshua is the undoubted favourite. Though he initially built a reputation as a knockout merchant, the Hertfordshire-born fighter has adapted his style in his recent contests. After grinding Carlos Takam down and finishing him off with a tenth-round barrage that prompted the ref to stop the fight, he used some superb ring-work to earn a dominant points win over Parker. Joshua has proven he has an exceptional boxing brain behind his blistering power.
In Povetkin, however, Joshua will face his toughest test since his 2017 super-fight against Wladimir Klitschko. Though the Russian has both a height and weight disadvantage, he’s one of the division’s toughest competitors – in fact his only defeat came at the hands of Klitschko in 2013. And, at the age of 38, Povetkin’s bruising knockout win over David Price in March proved the Russian still packs a serious punch.
It’s bound to be a thrilling match-up, and one that could easily turn out to be a tense, tactical battle or an all-out war. Whatever the outcome, it’s sure to be a cracking contest, and one that is definitely not to be missed. Here are the crucial stats…

But wait, there’s even more scintilating action on the way...
World Boxing Super Series super middleweight final, Friday 28 September, 6pm, ITV Box Office. In HD, priced at £16.95. Book from Monday 24 September
If Saturday’s heavyweight showdown whets your appetite for some top-class puglilism, there’s plenty more on offer the following week. In an all-British showdown in Saudi Arabia, WBA Super champion George Groves defends his belt against undefeated Liverpudlian Callum Smith, with the inaugural World Boxing Super Series title going to the winner.
It’s a real 50-50 this one: Groves is a slight favourite after his dominant performances in the previous two rounds, but considering his recent shoulder troubles and Smith’s impressive record and bags of potential, this one is difficult to predict. Expect power, quick feet and even faster hands.
