With another chance to watch mystery thriller Innocent on ITV, we pick out five more cracking anthology series

When it first aired in 2018, Innocent had millions of us gripped. Co-written by Chris Lang (Unforgotten), this four-part series about a man’s quest to find his wife’s real killer after being falsely imprisoned for her murder kept viewers guessing right to the end.

 

Now ITV are giving us the chance to relive every heart-stopping moment by repeating series 1 from Monday 4 May. And the even better news? A second series of the show is due to be on our screens in the future, but this time we’ll be getting a brand new story and brand new characters. Because who doesn’t love an anthology?


Whether you watched it the first time around or are looking for your next whodunnit fix, Innocent is definitely worth your time. But before you settle down on the sofa and start chewing your fingernails to the quick, here are five other anthology series that got viewers talking…

Following the recent success of series five, it’s been announced that two more series of this cult favourite have been commissioned by BBC Two.

 

Black Mirror

Tech-based terror from the mind of Charlie Brooker. These bleak stories focus their razor-sharp eye on our unhealthy relationship with the digital world, leading us all to feel extra guilty when mindlessly picking up our smartphones to check the Gram. Interactive episode “Bandersnatch” pushed the boundaries of TV like never before.

 

American Crime Story

From the OJ Simpson trial and the murder of Gianni Versace to the upcoming look at President Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky (we can’t wait), this series delves deep into the dark heart of US pop culture.

 

The Missing

Find series 1 & 2 in Catch Up > Channels > BBC iPlayer

Both series of this hit psychological mystery followed the frantic hunt for missing children in France (series 1) and Germany (series 2). The first run starred James Nesbitt and introduced us to the character of French detective Julien Baptiste, who went on to star in series 2 and a spin-off.

 

American Horror Story

Find seasons 1-8 on Netflix

Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s twisted series is the perfect blend of the horrific and the hilarious. Each star-studded instalment is guaranteed to provide a scare, yet they always give a knowing wink to the camera.
