Pick of the week: Dr No

Sunday 19 May, 2.25pm, ITV1 HD (CH 103)

With critically acclaimed spy thriller The Sympathizer coming to UK screens next week, enter the world of espionage with the film that started the James Bond saga. Sean Connery was the first actor to star as 007 on screen in 1962’s Dr No, in which Bond investigates the death of a fellow agent and finds himself on the trail of evil mastermind Dr Julius No (Joseph Wiseman). It features some of the series’ most memorable moments, including attempted murder by tarantula and the emergence of Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress) from the surf. But the best thing about it is Connery himself, his suave charm masking a ruthless brutality as he sees off the bad guys. A true British classic.
