This weekend saw the Premier League title race reach new levels of intrigue, as Liverpool got back to its winning ways against Bournemouth and Manchester City destroyed a hapless Chelsea.
Elsewhere, Manchester United’s quest for the top four continued in style at Fulham, while vital wins for Burnley and Cardiff City shook up the bottom of the table.

1. Result of the weekend
Manchester City 6-0 Chelsea
Wow. Just wow. After Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday the pressure was back on City in this absorbing title race on Sunday. The experts suggested it might be a tricky fixture for the champions and it looked that way for the first five seconds. The hosts then gave an irresistible footballing masterclass, brushing away their opponents with a truly scintillating performance.
2. Goal of the weekend
Anthony Martial (Manchester United) v Fulham
A lost soul under José Mourinho, Martial looks transformed under Ole Gunnar Solskjær. The Frenchman put United in the box seat against Fulham with a special strike; weaving his way through a line of defenders on the left wing before cutting inside and finishing with his trademark coolness.
3. Performance of the weekend
Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) v Chelsea
A special mention must go to hat-trick hero Sergio Agüero, but it was Sterling who really set the tone for City during their thumping of Chelsea. Not only did the electric winger score two goals, he also scared the life out of the opposition whenever he got the ball. Always running at them with pace and purpose, the England international was at his unstoppable best.
4. Manager of the weekend
Sean Dyche (Burnley)
When he’s not moonlighting as a nightclub doorman, Sean Dyche is quietly guiding in-form Burnley further away from the drop zone. The Clarets are now seven games unbeaten in the Premier League after an impressive 3-1 win at Brighton on Saturday. Only Manchester United, who are unbeaten in nine, have a better current record in the top flight.
5. Toy snake collection of the weekend
Watford fans
It was always going to be a feisty return to Vicarage Road for Marco Silva when his Everton side faced Watford on Saturday. The home fans still don’t forgive the manager for the acrimonious way he left the club in the summer, with many believing his behaviour was snake-like in its deviousness. To get this point across, some Watford supporters brought toy snakes into the ground and directed these symbolic serpents at Silva. To rub salt (or should that be venom?) into Silva’s wound, Watford won 1-0.
