Welcome to the Long Story Short. We’re giving you the breakdown on series 2 of Murder, They Hope. Whether you have ten seconds or a few minutes, get the need-to-know on GOLD’s hit show
By Charlotte Briggs, Writer
Got seconds to spare?
Comedy royalty (and inept private investigators) Sian Gibson and Johnny Vegas return to the small screen for another series in which they solve whodunnit murder mysteries, despite their distinct lack of deductive powers.
Have a minute more?
What’s it about?
Gemma (Sian Gibson, Car Share) and Terry (Johnny Vegas, Benidorm) are back as the painfully inadequate duo that would be unlikely to give Sherlock Holmes and Watson anything to worry about. But they did manage to capture coach-driving serial killer Willy Watkins (Lee Mack) in series 1, and now life couldn’t be more perfect for the couple: they’re planning their dream wedding, they’re running a private detective agency and Gemma’s even started her own true crime podcast to make use of her newfound fame.
But Willy Watkins isn’t finished yet, and Terry’s in danger of having his secret past life exposed. Eek.
How many episodes are there?
It’s a three-part series with each episode covering a separate case – all different, but all connecting to Gemma and Terry. You can watch them go undercover at a bizarre couples counselling retreat, endure their own wedding and finally face the fallout from Terry’s big revelation.
That all sounds familiar – have I seen these characters before?
Well, yes, in series 1 of Murder, They Hope – but before that, Gemma and Terry could be seen in similar murder-mystery escapades Murder On The Blackpool Express, Death On The Tyne and Dial M For Middlesbrough, all on GOLD and all from writer Jason Cook.
Who else is in this series?
There’s an all-star cast of suspects and more, featuring the likes of Tamzin Outhwaite (EastEnders), Sherrie Hewson (Coronation Street) and Lee Mack (Not Going Out). Keep an eye out for other familiar faces including Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sandi Toksvig (QI) and Vicki Pepperdine (Getting On). Also returning this series are Jason Manford (Scarborough) and Shobna Gulati (Coronation Street). Talk about British telly legends!
Why should I tune in?
If you like Scooby-Doo, a game of Cluedo or either of the Agathas, Christie or Raisin, this is the show for you.
